Start of a New Era

The C4 Corvette represented nothing less than a radical departure from its predecessor. So much so, in fact, that GM's design team failed to have the car ready for the 1983 model year as planned. And thus, the public had to wait until January of 1983 to be able to order their radical new 1984 Corvette. Chevy had teased the public for years with futuristic Corvette concept cars, and the production C4 certainly lived up to the hype they had created.

1986-1987

The big news for 1986, of course, was the return of the convertible Corvette.

Subtle changes took place in 1987, including wheels that featured Argent Gray paint in the center section and radial slot areas. In 1986, only the radial slot areas were painted this color. Prior to 1986, both areas were painted flat black.

1988

1988 marked the 35th anniversary of the Corvette, Chevrolet offered a 35th Special Edition package available in white, a nod to the white-only 1953 original. This includes white wheels, side strips, door hadles as well as the emblems.

Regular Corvettes received new wheels in a standard 16-inch or optional 17-inch.

1991

In 1991, Chevrolet rolled out a refreshed Corvette sporting its first significant styling changes. These changes included:

  • Wraparound
  • Integrated front turn signals/parking lights
  • Reshaped rear end with more squared off taillights
  • The center brake light moved from the roof to the top/center of the rear end
  • New tuurbine-style wheel

1993

1993 was an important year for the Corvette, marking its 40th year of existence with its special anniversary package including Ruby Red paint, leather and special badges.
